Maybe an odd choice to include on this list, It’s A Wonderful Life almost feels like the antithesis of a feel-good movie. But actually, it’s a prime film example of reasons to be thankful for what we have. It follows the story of George Bailey as he’s spent all his time thinking only of others and giving himself to the people of Bedford Falls (his home town). He has had many challenges to overcome throughout his life but has always managed to come out the other end stronger until one day, his business is on the verge of collapsing meaning he could face jail. In his lowest moment, Mr Bailey becomes heavily depressed and almost attempts suicide.

Obviously, this sounds very heavy and disheartening to take in. But the final act of the film makes the ride SO worth it. Before George takes his life over the bridge, he is sent an angel from Heaven named Clarence and most of us know the rest. He is shown what the world would be like without them and realises he actually had a great life.

It’s the uplifting ending which will really bring a tear to your eye. Narrowly escaping the loss of his life, George Bailey celebrates all his problems with glee before then coming home to find the towns people have greatly donated to the Bailey Family in return for all the kindness George has showed them, thus saving his business and making him “George Bailey: The Richest Man in Town”.

The town’s generosity is a testament to Mr Bailey’s hard-working, good hearted nature and really shows that you will be rewarded for your good deeds, even if it takes a little while. Yes, It’s A Wonderful Life is a tough pill to swallow at times but it’s a powerful reminder of not to takes our lives for granted, no matter how bleak they may be at times.
