20 Film Directors Who Could Define 2016

4. Paul Greengrass

He may be best known for his work directing Matt Damon in the Bourne franchise, but that isn€™t all Paul Greengrass has done with his career. His first forays into the world of directing included television documentaries focusing on sociopolitical issues. It was only until the mid-90€™s that Greengrass began making TV movies like Open Fire and The One That Got Away. Although not nearly as well-known as some of his other projects, his early filmography already demonstrated Greengrass€™ proclivity for politically-charged action thrillers. Some of his more recent directing achievements include 2013€™s Captain Phillips and 2006€™s United 93, for which he was nominated to receive an Oscar for Best Director. Still, it may always be that the Bourne films are Paul Greengrass€™ most popular movies. It seemed that Damon and Greengrass had said their final farewell to the CIA€™s deadly super-spy €” but lo and behold, they are coming back for at least one last hurrah. The currently-untitled Bourne 5 is slated for release sometime later this year. Time will tell if Greengrass will be able to recapture the same visceral thrills that made the series so special.
