Nicolas Winding Refn is a Danish film director with a rather interesting history. Born into a family of filmmakers, it seems only natural that Winding Refn would become one himself. He even had the pleasure of attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before he was expelled for throwing a chair into a wall. He made his film debut with the Pusher trilogy, a trio of crime thrillers set in the seedy criminal underworld of Copenhagen. After an unsuccessful attempt to break into Hollywood with the English-language Fear X, Winding Refn returned to Europe to make the arthouse biopic Bronson and the violent Viking epic Valhalla Rising. His biggest success to date, however, has been 2011s Drive, starring Ryan Gosling. Drive won Winding Refn the Cannes Film Festivals prestigous Best Director award, as well as numerous other accolades. This year, Nicolas Winding Refn will be releasing The Neon Demon, starring Keanu Reeves, Jena Malone, Elle Fanning, and Mad Men star Christina Hendricks. Given the directors past filmography, we can expect The Neon Demon to be at the very least a colorful and visually impressive arthouse feature.
