20 Film Franchises That Were Cancelled After One Movie

15. Hellboy (2019)

Flash Gordon
Lionsgate

Despite the fact that Guillermo Del Toro's two Hellboy films were met with positive reviews, they didn't make enough money to guarantee a threequel. But when Neil Marshall announced he was rebooting the film series, fans of the badass superhero were hoping he would have better luck.

Sadly, it seemed like the Hellboy franchise was as damned as...well... Hellboy. Marshall hated working on the film since producers kept arguing with him and giving conflicting direction to the actors. They threw out scenes or dialogue so often, the actors were forced to rewrite many scenes.

In the end, we were left with a badly written, sloppily edited, disjointed mess. The post-credit scene may have teased a sequel but everyone involved in the production was overjoyed when the second movie was shelved indefinitely.
