20 Films To Watch If You Love Halloween But Hate Horror

Has there ever been a more charming ghost in cinema history than Casper?

In this kid-friendly Halloween movie, a young girl named Kat (played wonderfully by Christina Ricci) and her ghost therapist father head to an old haunted house, infested by ghosts. It is there that Kat discovers Casper – the lovely, yet isolated ghost. He’s the old spirit of a young boy who longs to be human. The one thing stopping him is his three nasty uncles, who are determined to keep all humans away.

The film is amazingly deft in how it deals with personal losses and loneliness within the characters of Casper and Kat. The poignancy makes for a well-rounded story which has plenty of heart and humour to it. Casper is admittedly a bit cheesy but it’s a delightful tale to be had around Halloween, one which will make you think differently about how we perceive ghosts.
