20 Flawless Scenes From 2021 Movies

8. Dune - The Baron's Takeover

Denis Villeneuve's long-awaited adaptation of Frank Herbert's legendary sci-fi novel was a roaring success and one of the year's most essential movies.

There were many important qualities that made Dune such a smash-hit, but one of the very greatest things about it is the story. Sure, the film is emotionally distant but it's certainly not a soulless film at all, since the story is completely fascinating and engrossing.

The best example of this is the coup the film's main antagonist (Stellan Skarsgard) launches against the main characters, destroying their fiefdom and killing many of their allies.

Like the rest of the film, these downbeat, startling events are beautifully brought to life on-screen, with every aspect of the production reaching phenomenal highs. It also represents the film's excellent screenplay at its very best, with the rich world building and resonant political themes helping to make this an exceptionally interesting and thoroughly sobering turn of events.

This part of the film also gave us one of the best death scenes of the year: the thoroughly sad sacrificial death of Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac), who releases a poison gas in an unsuccessful attempt to kill the Baron.
