20 Great Movie Franchises That Became Unwatchable
9. Despicable Me
When Despicable Me released as the first Illumination film back in 2010, it was lauded as a wonderfully fun family romp, putting the eccentric Gru (Steve Carell) at the centre of things. As a villain, he was rightly despicable, but he learned to be a father, which was nothing short of heartwarming, and the Minions were as good a supporting cast as you could hope.
However, as said before, there can be too much of a good thing. Since that first outing, there have been three more Despicable Me chapters, as well as two Minions movies, with a third to come.
Is there anyone who isn't now sick of the Minions? They were cute and funny when used sparingly, but as their role grew and grew, they became less and less appealing. They have now even pushed Gru to be a side character in their second film.
This may have been forgivable if the Despicable Me outings were better than their spin-off, but unfortunately, that isn't the case. The sequel was fun, but the series has steadily declined. Unfortunately, the box office intake hasn't, and so it seems almost certain that there will be even more to come in the future.
