20 Greatest Movie Blockbusters Of The 21st Century (So Far)
5. The Lego Movie
Brooklyn 99 creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller have had more than their fair share of great blockbusters since 2000, with the hilarious pair having a hand in franchises ranging from the hysterical 21 Jump Street cop comedies to Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs' animated mayhem.
But it’s this 2014 effort we’re singling out since its inventive, hilarious story of a Lego-everyman discovering a dark conspiracy surrounding his entire existence manages to be funny, clever, and not a little emotionally involving without ever sacrificing constant, consistently original action set pieces—all of them taking place in the small-scale world of the titular toys.
Add in some cameos from a host of famous franchises and you’ve got one of the new millennium’s most underrated animated offerings.
