20 Highest Grossing Movies Of 2015 - Ranked

13. San Andreas

Chart Position: 14th Worldwide Gross: $473,790,832 If it wasn't helmed by Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge Of Kitty Galore), you'd swear this film was directed by Roland Emmerich, such is its all-out carnage and global-scale destruction. Alas, it's not, and though it bears striking similarities to Emmerich's absurd but weirdly enjoyable 2012, it remains that San Andreas is its own film, capably handled by Dwayne Johnson in the lead role to garner the film a few extra points (he really is watchable - and believable - in just about anything). The first hour of San Andreas actually gives off a few campy, entertaining B-movie vibes, and there's even a decent human drama in amongst all the apocalyptic CGI porn. It's just that after the first hour San Andreas sinks into all out destruction, destroying LA in great computer detail but eventually boring with its repetition. This is disaster overkill, and, enjoying as it can be, it sadly proves a cliche old adage correct: less really is more.
