Box Office: $1 billion approx at the time of press (#3)

Though the peculiar fan backlash against Star Wars: The Last Jedi has definitely dented its box office prospects a tad, it's still incredibly unlikely that the film won't sail past Beauty and the Beast to become the year's most commercially successful movie.

To many, The Last Jedi is an unexpectedly subversive entry into the franchise, upending expectations while delivering gleefully enjoyable action, great performances and just enough nostalgia for those who crave it.

To others, it refused to pay-off many of the plot strands set up in The Force Awakens, was haphazardly written and too long, but each to their own.

Following the rather safe-playing nature of The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi feels like just the movie the series needs right now, a film urging both the franchise and audiences to let go of the past and embrace this new age of Star Wars.
