20 Horror Monsters That Were Scarier Before You Saw Them

2. The Newborn - Alien Resurrection

The Extra-Terrestrial - Man Vs.

It's ironic how the same franchise that gave birth to arguably the most nightmare-inducing alien in cinema also devised one of the worst.

Alien: Resurrection takes place 200 years after its predecessor, with a clone of Ripley facing off against a new batch of Xenomorphs. Due to genetic tinkering with Ripley, the Xenomorph queen develops a uterus, allowing her to birth an alien/human hybrid. For all of Resurrection's faults up until this point, viewers were intrigued to see what this Newborn looked like.

The short answer? Terrible.

Instead of maintaining the biomechanical, sleek shape of its predecessors, this abomination is gangly, gaunt, and pudgy. The Newborn has a bumbling manner of moving, which doesn't exactly invoke the primal dread that Alien veterans were expecting.

Making this all the more frustrating, this hybrid is meant to represent a perfect fusion between Xenomorphs and humans. However, this aversion of nature is so slow and clumsy, and it'd be far easier to dispose of than a regular Xenomorph. Although it's commendable how Alien: Resurrection went against the grapevine, the Newborn was a major downgrade when it should've been the most terrifying incarnation of the Xenomorph imaginable.
