20 Horror Monsters That Were Scarier Before You Saw Them

More often than not, bad movie monsters are ruined by cheap costumes or unconvincing CGI. However, Night of the Lepus had a unique problem, since the monsters were too adorable to be scary.

In this schlocky B-movie, a small American town is invaded by giant mutant rabbits. Due to the ridiculous premise, it's no surprise Night of the Lepus bombed spectacularly. But being the devil's advocate, it could've worked if the thumping beasts had a bone-chilling design.

Based on how seriously the characters are taking the threat, you expect the bloodthirsty bunnies to be somewhat intimidating. But instead of using elaborate animatronics or puppets, the Lepus are portrayed by normal-sized rabbits, often scurrying around a miniature set. Although this decision was done to make the "monsters" appear bigger, it's completely unconvincing (but cute). Sometimes, the wascally wabbits are superimposed in full-size sets, but it never looks legit.

Night of the Lepus could've gotten away with its goofy shtick if it leaned into it, but the second you see the characters are sincerely frightened of these fluffy fiends, it was obvious the film was doomed.
