8. Alec - I See You
In 2019's horror thriller I See You, we're initially led to believe that the character of Alec (Owen Teague) is a total a**hole for no reason but his own amusement.
When we first meet Alec he teams up with his friend Mindy (Libe Barer) to do some "phrogging" - that is, secretly living inside someone's house without their knowledge.
And while Mindy, a serial phrogger, makes it clear that phroggers have no intent to cause harm to the residents of the homes they hide within, Alec decides to start gaslighting the residents - the Harper family - seemingly just for kicks.
But at the end of the film we learn that Harper patriarch Greg (Jon Tenney) is actually a serial killer, after which Alec shoots him dead.
More than this, Alec was actually one of Greg's intended victims years prior who managed to escape, and the entire phrogging ploy was a premeditated revenge plan on his part.
Alec is far from perfect, and his plot ultimately led to Mindy being killed by Greg, but he was certainly far more than an obnoxious troll messing with a family for no reason.
He had understandable motivations for revenge and followed it all the way through, ensuring Greg's true nature was revealed to the world.
