20 Horror Movies That Made You Root For The Wrong Person

18. Orphan: First Kill

Orphan First Kill

Orphan revolves around Leena Klammer, a serial killer suffering from a pituitary disorder that makes her look deceptively young. By impersonating a child, Leena hopes to be adopted by a family to evade the authorities.

Although Leena popped her clogs during Orphan's climax, her story wasn't finished since that film eventually spawned a prequel. In Orphan: First Kill, Leena assumes the identity of a missing American girl, Esther Albright. After meeting with Esther's mother, Tricia, Leena believes the first phase of her plan is complete.

At first, you feel terrible for Tricia. Not only is her daughter still missing and possibly dead, but Leena is posing as her, giving the mother false hope.

But at the halfway point of First Kill, Tricia admits she knows Leena isn't who she says she is since she saw her adolescent son kill Esther. To avoid a scandal, Tricia buried her daughter's body and pretended that she'd gone missing. Now that Leena has interfered with Tricia's plans, she has no choice but to take her out of the picture.

Because we already knew that Leena is a psychopath, you instinctively champion anyone she's at odds with, especially Tricia. But over time, Tricia is proven to be just as heartless.
