As the first movie that dealt with the AIDS crisis directly, Parting Glances deserves its place on this list. A very small production featuring a young Steve Buscemi in an early role, Parting Glances revolves around a gay couple in their late twenties as they come to grips with the fact that one of them has AIDS. The movie received plaudits for the sensitive way that it approached the subject matter, the sharp and witty dialogue and for showing how the AIDS crisis formed part of a larger social fabric.
