9. "I Don't Wanna Die In Canada." - Tusk
Kevin Smith's latest movie may not be to all tastes, but it's hard to fault the cult writer-director for trying something new, especially when it's this brave and outlandish. The movie follows a famous podcaster Wallace (Justin Long) who chases up a story in Canada, only to find himself held prisoner by a crazy former seaman (Michael Parks) who wishes to transform him into a walrus. Yep. When Wallace gets an opportunity to call his girlfriend (Genesis Rodriguez) for help, he leaves a distraught voicemail message, ending with the declaration, "I don't wanna die in Canada", a pretty hilarious summation of what most Americans would probably be thinking in Wallace's situation. It's all in good fun, of course, because Smith is himself a Canadian, and it's a welcome burst of humour in what is largely a deeply disturbing, off-kilter thriller.
