Using the term Easter egg in connection to hidden things in movies originated with The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The story goes that during production, the crew had an Easter egg hunt one day, because apparently that's the mindset they were in when shooting this film.

There were a few eggs that nobody found, and so during the course of the movie, one of them can be seen under Frank's throne.

There are supposedly two others on a light fixture and during an elevator sequence, although those are a lot more difficult to spot. Maybe the best time to view Rocky Horror isn't Halloween; it's actually Easter, as you can have an egg hunt of your very own while watching it.
