20 Most Anticipated Horror Movies of 2026

With 28 Years Later wrapping shooting this past July, no time was wasted in getting a sequel into production, with Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels) helming a follow-up starring Cillian Murphy, who of course played the series' original protagonist Jim.

Murphy will reportedly have a small role in 28 Years Later which tees up his larger presence in this sequel, though it remains to be seen whether any of 28 Years Later's other cast members - namely Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes - will appear.

Also, it's unclear whether DaCosta is following the lead of the Danny Boyle-directed 28 Years Later and shooting her film on an extremely rigged-out iPhone 15 Pro Max.

All the same, it's tremendously exciting to see one of the most distinctive horror films of the last 25 years have its world expanded.

There's no hard release date set for 28 Years Later Part II yet, but given that its predecessor is releasing next June and this film is already well into shooting, a 2026 drop seems all but guaranteed.
