The Hunger Games has proven itself a surprisingly enduring franchise, what with the success of 2023's prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

Next up, we've got an adaptation of Suzanne Collins' recent novel, Sunrise on the Reaping, at once a sequel to The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and a prequel to the main Hunger Games series.

Sunrise on the Reaping takes place 24 years before the first film, centered around a young Haymitch (Joseph Zada) as he's selected to take part in the 50th Hunger Games. Above all else, the casting department absolutely cooked here, because this boasts some of the finest on-paper prequel casting in a minute.

Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Ralph Fiennes as President Snow; this is all A+ work, without even mentioning the wider cast, including Mckenna Grace, Ben Wang, Maya Hawke, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Glenn Close.

On top of all this, the cinematography looks absolutely gorgeous, and with Francis Lawrence - who has directed the last four movies - returning to helm, we know it's all in basically safe hands.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping releases on November 20.
