20 Most Anticipated Sci-Fi Movies Arriving In 2026

10. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

The Mandalorian Season 3
Lionsgate

UK release date: 10th November

The middling two-parter finale to the original Hunger Games films seemed like the end for the series back in 2015, and yet author Suzanne Collins’ prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and its 2023 movie adaptation breathed life back into the franchise, revitalising it in viewers' minds and opening up the property for a whole new generation. And things haven’t stopped there.

Sunrise on the Reaping is set a quarter century before the events of the first picture and focuses on Katniss Everdeen’s mentor Haymitch Abernathy (here played by Joseph Zada), as he fights his way through his own Hunger Games. This time, it’s the 50th Games we’re focusing on - a Quarter Quell, in which each district of Panem must send twice the number of tributes to fight to the death.

Sure, it is yet another Battle Royale-adjacent outing - and everything that entails - but for those invested in the characters and the world, it is a thrilling opportunity to return to Panem and experience first-hand events that are only referenced in the other films.
