The first X-Men film is a great movie and one that helped popularise superhero movies with casual audiences, but it also plays host to an unforgettably cringey line during the final Staten Island battle.

As Storm gears up to wreck Toad, she asks him, "You know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning?", and after electrocuting him sternly declares, "The same thing that happens to everything else."

Joss Whedon actually contributed this line to the script and has repeatedly defended it, stating that it was meant to be delivered casually rather than seriously as Halle Berry did, but either way, it's an awful moment in an otherwise highly entertaining film.
