The Martian took the world by storm in 2015 and rightfully so, it was captivating, hilarious, and completely unique. And while seeing Matt Damon grow a potato farm in the middle of Mars was suitably amazing, its hard to deny just how incredible his eventual rescue was by comparison. Thanks to what was essentially an entire movies worth of setup and planning, when the plan was actually enacted, it was immensely gratifying. Having Damon rocket back into space only to have obstacle after obstacle before him to actually get on board the ship was pulse-pounding to say the least. And when it finally came down to it, using the Iron Man technique he had so fondly described while Jessica Chastain reached further and further out, only to have him finally reach her arms, was the stuff that epics are built on. This moment marked a victory for everyone and few scenes this year would garner as many audience cheers as this one did.
