20 Most Iconic Villain Introductions In Movie History
8. Count Orlock - Nosferatu
The silent expressionist horror masterpiece Nosferatu might not directly mention the name Dracula but it's an adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic tale in all but name - unable to secure the rights to Stoker's book, F. W. Murnau changed a few names and delivered what was perhaps the first truly iconic horror movie in the history of cinema. There's a lot of myth surrounding Max Schreck, the mysterious man who played Count Orlok, and even today there's something inherently unnerving and sinister about his appearance in Nosferatu, all pointy, angular features and grotesque fangs. Murnau demonstrated an understanding for some of the essential rules of horror - rather than introduce his horrific creation immediately he hinted at its appearance through twisted shadows stretching up walls before finally revealing him in all his hideous glory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF2OcMjMnR4
