20 Most Perfect Scenes In Recent Movies

2. One Battle After Another - Car Chase

One Battle After Another can now be placed in a club with movies such as Bullitt, The French Connection, The Italian Job, Mad Max Fury Road and Duel. Specifically, it's got one of the greatest movie car chases ever.

This one involves three cars. One is driven by Willa (Chase Infiniti), the illegitimate daughter of a villainous US colonel, the next is being driven by Tim (John Hoogenakker), a hitman sent to kill her and the final one is being driven by Bob (Leonardo DiCaprio), Willa's father-figure who's trying to save her. The setting is one that hopefully earned the locations team a massive pay-rise: it's a road of hills that allowed the cars to keep disappearing and reappearing over crests and troughs.

Action scenes are sometimes compared to rollercoasters, and that comparison has rarely been more apt than it is here. The cars go up and down the hills, with the razor-sharp cinematography immersing us completely in the action to dizzying effect. These exquisite visuals combined with Jonny Greenwood's pounding musical score make this an elite movie moment, one that sees one of the best film directors in the world using his consummate understanding of film language to create one of the most flawless movie moments of the decade.

Willa's victory - she leaves her car on a blind summit so that Tim crashes into it - is also one of the smartest movie decisions in recent memory, and that was the cherry on top of the cake.
