20 Most Perfect Scenes In Recent Movies
15. The Naked Gun - OJ Gag
In some ways, it's a shame that 2025's surprisingly good Naked Gun reboot gave away its best gag in the trailers, yet that didn't lessen its impact once it finally arrived in all its glory.
The Naked Gun films are some of the greatest comedy movies ever, yet there is an undeniably uncomfortable element lurking within them. One of the lead actors is none other than OJ Simpson, whose notorious double-murder trial ended with him being shockingly acquitted.
Realistically, the reboot needed to acknowledge this awkwardness in some way, though director Akiva Schaffer sensitively chose to keep it to just one gag. Said gag was practically perfect.
The scene unfolds in a hallway of candlelit photos of late police officers, with their children - who have all followed exactly in their parents' footsteps - kneeling and crying and giving emotional speeches. Frank Drebin Jr (Liam Neeson) and Ed Hocken Jr (Paul Walter Hauser) are among them, with both talking to portraits of their fathers from the old trilogy.
This was already a hilarious jab at Hollywood's trend of legacy sequels where everyone is family, but then it cuts to a picture of Nordberg, played by Simpson. Nordberg Jr (Moses Jones) then grimaces at the camera and shakes his head before getting up. Priceless.
As well as being a hysterically funny meta gag, it was also the perfect 'tribute' to a terrible scumbag.
