10. Salo (1975)

A full on puke fest from Pier Paolo Pasolini, Salo is an attempt to film the Marquis de Sade's notorious depraved masterpiece The 120 Days of Sodom. It is transposed to the dying days of the Fascist Mussolini regime in Italy. Four wealthy, corrupt libertines hole up in a mansion with boys and girls they have kidnapped, a bunch of garrulous prostitutes and other assorted deviants. Major debauchery ensues which soon turns into torture and murder. Definitely one of the repellant films ever made, and designed to be so by Pasolini, Salo is an important political film but really piles on the ick factor with its many coprophagy (s**t eating) sequences and mountains of sodomy, humiliation and sadism. It is a viewing experience which you will find stark and brutal, and virtually unwatchable unless you have a very jaded palate.
