3. Ebola Syndrome (1996)

An HK CAT 3 film was destined to be on this list. Ebola Syndrome follows the revolting shenanigans of the highly repellent Kai, a restaurant cook who kills his employer and his employer's wife. He then sods off to South Africa where again he works in a Chinese restaurant. Kai goes with his boss to source some meat in the outback. Thy land in an ebola ridden tribe where opportunistic pervert Kai rapes a dying woman and contracts ebola. Kai is very ill but amazingly recovers to become a carrier of the disease. History repeats itself and he kills the restaurant owner and his wife but not before they have been infected by ebola. He serves the dead pair up as burgers - thus infecting South Africa. Kai returns to Hong Kong with his dead boss's money and lives it large, infecting everyone he comes into contact with. Soon there is an ebola crisis in HK and Kai is tracked down by men in anti-contamination suits as the source of the epidemic. Can they catch our errant antihero? Kai is a vile character who is extremely perverted, contains murderous rage, has bad personal hygiene and is a general nasty piece of work. But though repellant he may be, his capers are compelling to watch. His repulsiveness is astounding - spitting at people in the street to deliberately infect them with ebola, and his murders are very violent and gruesome. It is not a film of any importance other than being probably the most famous CAT 3 film. Great fun for fans of extreme cinema. Sick nonsense for everyone else.
