Bravo to the marketing team over at Warner Bros. for doing a splendid job convincing fans that The Crimes of Grindelwald would be a more confident, stylish and crowd-pleasing follow-up to 2016's good-but-not-great Fantastic Beasts (74%).

To the slack-jawed shock of just about everybody, the sequel mustered barely half its predecessor's score, with a depressingly mediocre 5.3 average, making it the only entry into the 10-film Wizarding World franchise to land a Rotten rating.

The blame lies almost squarely with J.K. Rowling, whose surprisingly sloppy script smacks of a writer rushing a project out the door without sufficient thought or enthusiasm.

With Rowling having finished writing the third film mere weeks after The Crimes of Grindelwald was released, it's safe to say the threequel probably won't do much to address the overwhelming fan dissatisfaction with the story moving forward. Yikes.
