9. The Whole Wishes Plot Point - Wonder Woman 1984

Wonder Woman 1984 Maxwell Lord

Wonder Woman 1984 was largely agreed to be a disappointment, in large part because so much of the plot is centered around the extraordinarily goofy concept of wishes, which are granted by a magical MacGuffin known as the Dreamstone.

Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig) uses it to become like Diana, Diana uses it to resurrect Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), and Max Lord (Pedro Pascal) literally becomes the stone, allowing him to grant the wishes of others.

And so, much of the movie is comprised of Lord clumsily trying to convince people to ask for wishes that he wants in order to further his own prosperity.

This is without getting into the nonsense of Lord ultimately granting wishes en masse through a satellite broadcast signal, and then later apparently convincing every single wisher to renounce their wish by film's end.

This of course calls into question the morality of asking a cancer-ridden person to wish themselves ill again, among other things.

All in all it's a painfully ill thought-out concept and something that feels like it belongs more in the 1984 Supergirl movie than Wonder Woman.
