20 Movie Sequels That Start Immediately After The First
4. Kill Bill: Volume 2
The Kill Bill duology is a unique example of this considering that Quentin Tarantino originally shot them as a single, epic movie, only for producer Harvey Weinstein to persuade him to split them in two.
And so, it's totally a given that Volume 2 follows directly on from Volume 1, because why wouldn't it if they're basically just two halves of the same revenge movie?
Volume 1 ends with The Bride (Uma Thurman) killing O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) and the shock revelation that The Bride's daughter is still alive - one hell of a tantalising tease for the second half of the story.
And while in total fairness Volume 2 picks up with a lengthy flashback sequence depicting Bill (David Carradine) shooting The Bride at her wedding four years prior, this still feels like a natural continuation of Volume 1's ending considering both its climactic reveal and Tarantino's penchant for non-linear storytelling.
After this, we're back to the present day, as The Bride chases down the next target on her kill list - Bill's brother Budd (Michael Madsen).
With a single four-hour version of the story, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, finally getting a theatrical release at the end of 2025, it'll be great to see how the two halves of the story seamlessly connect as Tarantino originally intended.
