20 Film & TV Remakes You Didn't Know Were Coming
16. Miami Vice
While you could argue that some reboots are produced with the view to bring old films and shows to a whole new audience, there is undoubtedly the crucial element of nostalgia at play. There has to be some kind of want to return to the time when such projects were successful.
There are few decades film studios have more nostalgia for than the 80s, with reboots and legacy sequels coming in droves, including of course Top Gun: Maverick. Helmed by Joseph Kosinski, the director made one of the best legacy sequels of all time, and will now turn his attention to another 80s franchise.
This time it will be a reboot rather than a sequel, and while Top Gun was brought into the modern day, 2027's Miami Vice will reportedly stay firmly planted in the 1980s. The show originally ran from 1984 to 1989, with the new version promising to bring to life a similar era 40 years later. reportedly exploring the decade's glamour and corruption.
The 2006 outing did little to make the property relevant again (even Colin Farrell wasn't happy with it), however the new project slated for a 2027 release is rumoured to be eyeing Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan for the lead roles of Crockett and Tubbs, which seems like a partnership that would be fun in any dynamic.
