20 Movie Villains Who Were Unbelievably Petty

19. Gaston - Beauty And The Beast

Though some of the classics have been around for decades, Disney Animation has come a long way in terms of storytelling. Rarely now, if ever, is a female lead just in need of a man, in the ways of Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, and even as recently as Tangled and The Princess and the Frog.

In this, Beauty and the Beast was kind of ahead of its time. Sure, Belle (Paige O'Hara) ultimately fell in love with the man who kept her captive and was, you know, a Beast, but at least she didn't succumb to the charms of Gaston (Robby Benson) like everyone else.

Just because he ate however many dozen eggs a day, had bulging muscles and a chiseled jawline, Gaston expected Belle to be madly in love with him, and when she rejected his marriage proposal - a more than reasonable response - he did not take it well.

No, Gaston was not one to handle rejection lightly, even from the woman he gave absolutely no genuine reason to feel anything but negativity towards him. He reacted first by trying to have her father imprisoned as a way to blackmail her, then by launching a full-scale attack against the Beast because she loved him instead. Again, it's not even like Gaston put in any effort at all; he just expected and felt entitled to Belle's love thanks to his own inflated ego and nothing more.
