7. Suspiria

Even though horror movie remakes are pretty shameless cash-ins 90% of the time, produced without any real creative vision and all too concerned with paying tribute to the past rather than using that as a jumping-off point to be creative, the same criticisms can't be levelled at Suspiria.

The reboot of Dario Argento's colourful classic was conceptualised with bold creative decisions in mind from the get go, with director Luca Guadagnino attempting to put his own authorial thumbprint on the material by losing the primary colours and doubling down on the dreamlike nature of the film's coven of witches.

The teaser trailer - a wordless tone piece supported by Thom Yorke's haunting score - has already won over even the most ardent critics, setting high expectations for when the movie hits theatres.
