20 Perfect Scenes In God-Awful Horror Movies

1. THAT Scene - Ghost Ship

Ghost Ship
Warner Bros.

Ironically, the best thing about Ghost Ship is also the worst thing. The opening is so mind-blowing, it'll compel almost anyone to watch the film in its entirety.

The supernatural flick begins on a ship deck, with a young girl called Katie dancing alongside the passengers. Even though horror purists expect the tranquil scene to take a nasty turn, nobody is prepared for what comes next.

With no warning, a steel wire snaps, shooting across every person on deck, save for Katie. Though everybody seems normal at first, the blood-soaked wire tells another story. Slowly but surely, the passengers collapse piece by piece.

Not only is this a great set up, every image is a money shot. The top half of a woman crawling towards her legs. A dismembered arm flaying around. The captain's scalp falling in front of Katie.

Although we don't know these characters, the scene focuses on the little girl, so we see this nightmarish scenario from her point of view, making this already gag-inducing sequence more haunting.

It's ironic how the rest of Ghost Ship proved to be unbearably boring, considering the opening is one of the most memorable scenes in the entire genre.
