Due to the heaps of slow motion effects, pristinely-dressed Agents and the green-hue world of the Matrix, it's sometimes easy to forget that the Wachowskis drew inspiration from a very famous genre for the sci-fi series.

The subway stand-off between Neo and Smith is more Western than some Western films, and their homage to the almost-dead genre is spectacular.

The narrow, symmetrical walkway, tumbleweed-replacing newspapers and close-ups of each character's trigger finger is the perfect homage to the Old West.
