20 Reasons Horror Might Be The Greatest Genre Ever

13. Great Directors

00512 Horror films have boasted a number of spectacular directors through the decades. From Tod Browning in the 1930s - Freaks, Dracula, Devil Doll right up to present day directors. George Romero has won acclaim and fame as the uber zombie film Maestro - his Living Dead trilogy - Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead - was a phenomenal success and instrumental in moulding the zombie sub genre. Wes Craven broke out with the phenomenal Last House on the Left - a film that will break your heart. He went on to score further genre success with The Hills Have Eyes, Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream (now let us never talk about The Mangler). Even highly decorated directors who are not genre specialists have cut their teeth on gore - such as Peter 'Lord of the Rings' Jackson - he made a splash with cult favourites Bad Taste and Brain Dead. Horror is not limited to a couple of seedy, degenerate directors - it encompasses some of the most famous names in the cinema world.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
