20 Recent Movies That Ruined INCREDIBLE Plots

16. The Last House

The Last House
Netflix

The Last House certainly sold itself well with its immediately transfixing setup, focused on a family who find themselves sealed in their home with seemingly no means of escape.

But after a compelling first act, it becomes clear that the script just doesn't have anywhere remotely interesting for the story to go.

While there are unpredictable moments, they feel mostly tacked on for the sake of it, as though Netflix took a couple of spec scripts from their offices and sloppily combined them into something "new."

The performances from Greta Lee and Wagner Moura are reliably solid, because of course they are, but between the messy writing, brutal pacing, and dodgy editing, this is a movie that falls far short of its captivating setup - a Netflix Original trend if there ever was one.

In the hands of another writer, this could've gone a whole other direction and been infinitely more rewarding.
