20 Saddest Moments In Marvel's Cinematic Universe (So Far)
11. The Lonely Man
Another MCU alumnus who will rejoin the fray in Civil War is General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt), last seen as a thorn in Bruce Banners side in The Incredible Hulk in 2008. Banner, of course, was played by Ed Norton in Marvels least financially successful film before Mark Ruffalo became the fourth man to take on the role a few years later. And when Nortons Days Without Incident counter was reduced to nil following Rosss SWAT teams manhunt in the Rocinha favela of Rio de Janeiro, Hulk fans of a certain age were treated to a memorable moment of nostalgia. As Norton made his way from Guatemala to the States via Chiapas, Mexico, The Lonely Man theme that accompanied the closing credits of The Incredible Hulk TV show of the late-seventies and early-eighties made a brief but gratifying appearance. Just a few haunting bars instantly brought to mind Bill Bixbys solitary struggle for anyone familiar with the characters first on-screen incarnation and injected some welcome pathos into an uneven affair.
