The teen slasher film hasn't really changed a whole lot since Halloween basically created the genre. Scream was self-aware, sure, but still played with all the usual tropes. It Follows takes the unfortunate trope of female teen sexuality being a dangerous thing and makes it real, with an intangible, malicious presence passed on like a sexually transmitted disease between partners.
Terrifying, clever, and with a pulsing John Carpenter-esque score, this is the teen horror film you've been waiting for.
