There were hugely mixed feelings when Warner Bros. announced that they were mounting a new adaptation of Stephen King's It, given that the original 1990 miniseries remains such an iconic staple to so many, largely thanks to Tim Curry's magnificently terrifying performance as Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

But Andy Muschietti ultimately delivered a richer, more expansive interpretation of King's source material with his 2017 film, and while Curry's original performance is basically unimpeachable, Bill SkarsgĂ„rd did a magnificent job matching if not surpassing him.

The young ensemble cast and Muschietti's intense filmmaking combined to make this a rare R-rated studio horror flick with serious bite - pardon the pun - and even though It Chapter Two wasn't nearly as sturdy, as a package the duology still make for a daring, visually stunning retelling of a classic horror text.

As brilliant as Curry is as Pennywise, the miniseries can't help but seem incredibly quaint, even downright corny, compared to Muschietti's two films.
