20 Surprisingly Great Horror Movie Remakes

19. Let Me In

Hollywood sure didn't wait around to develop a remake of 2008's Swedish horror masterpiece Let the Right One In - an announcement which was met with groans and eye-rolls from the horror community, who'd suffered through a glut of low-effort remakes of beloved international horrors over the previous decade.

Why exactly would Matt Reeves, the guy who made Cloverfield, be the right choice to do this remake justice?

And yet, while Let Me In doesn't supersede its predecessor, it is a highly respectful retelling which also does just enough to stand on its own two feet.

It helps that Reeves' film is framed as a re-adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist's original novel than a shot-for-shot remake, even though it is unmistakably similar to the Swedish movie in most respects.

Reeves' stylish direction combined with phenomenal performances from Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloƫ Grace Moretz, and Richard Jenkins ensure that Let Me In is a ride well worth taking on its own.
