20 Terrible 2014 Movies That Should Never Have Happened
14. Annie
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 29% A painful remake of a classic musical that nobody asked for, this new Annie could, in fairness, have been an interesting urban update of the source material, but instead, it's a lame rehash that drowns lead actress Quvenzhane Wallis under absurd social media references and uninspired renditions of classic tunes. Probably the worst thing that can be said about this film is how stunningly bland it is: despite featuring a cast including Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz and Rose Byrne, there's just no enthusiasm or sense of fun. Everything feels forced, and though she's quite possibly heading for a Razzie win for her over-the-top work here, Diaz is pretty much the liveliest thing in the entire film. It's way too long, there's too much talking, and the cringe factor remains consistently high throughout. Despite the memorable songs, the original movie isn't even that great, so who thought this would be any better? Instead, it is a perfect argument for why contemporary remakes and reboots so often fall flat.
