20 TERRIFYING Scenes In TERRIBLE Horror Movies
5. Say Hello To Doom-Head - 31
31 is another Rob Zombie film that, for all of its grunginess and vulgarity, is actually a crushingly banal genre exercise, failing to offer up much of anything save for an undeniably brilliant performance from his regular collaborator Richard Brake as villain Doom-Head.
And thankfully we're introduced to Doom-Head in 31's very first scene - a hypnotic, single-take sequence where Brake's character approaches the camera to deliver an unhinged soliloquy explaining who he is and the horrible things he's about to do to his latest victim.
The scene goes on for more than five minutes before Doom-Head finally puts his target out of their misery with an axe, and yet Brake's performance is so intensely compelling that you likely won't even realise how much time has passed.
Though the dialogue also has a pulpy, sinewy quality to it, it's Brake's delicious performance - his penetrating, unrelenting gaze more than anything - that gets 31 off to a chilling start the rest of the movie can't ever live up to.
