20 TERRIFYING Scenes In TERRIBLE Horror Movies
6. Strahm's Death - Saw V
Saw V is generally accepted to be one of the series' worst films - a shameless filler entry that doesn't do much to move the series mythology forward.
It's the first Saw movie that feels like a genuine bore, though at least it saves its most harrowing and disturbing moment for the very end.
Saw V is the first Saw movie without a major plot twist, though ends with Agent Strahm (Scott Patterson) being urged to enter a glass box by the new Jigsaw, Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor).
Strahm refuses, believing it to be a trap, instead throwing Hoffman inside, at which point the box is lowered beneath the floor and the walls begin closing in.
Basically, the box wasn't a trap - it was the only way to survive the real trap, which is the closing-in walls.
And so, we're forced to watch as Strahm desperately tries to find a way to escape, ultimately being crushed to death by the walls as Hoffman watches with sadistic glee.
The Saw franchise is full of "torture porn," though this remains one of its most disturbing kills, if only because Straham was a better-established character than most victims and director David Hackl lingers on Staham's suffering as his bones shatter and he's crushed to pulp.
Like the best Saw traps there's a real skin-crawling "What would I do?" quality to this one, even if the rest of the movie feels like glorified deleted scenes from Saw IV.
