20 TERRIFYING Scenes In TERRIBLE Horror Movies

19. Sean's Death - Jaws: The Revenge

Jaws: The Revenge has been tarred and feathered by critics and moviegoers alike for the better part of 40 years, and with good reason - it's a fundamentally absurd horror sequel which wants the audience to believe that a shark can hold a vendetta.

But it does at least kick off with a genuinely unsettling sequence in which Chief Brody's son Sean (Mitchell Anderson) is attacked and killed by a great white shark.

Sean, who works as a police deputy, attempts to free a trapped log from a buoy, only for the shark to emerge and bite his arm off.

Sean screams for help but can't be heard back on shore over a group of carol singers, leaving him helpless as the shark sinks his boat and drags him underwater to his demise.

As aggressively unserious as Jaws: The Revenge is, this opening kill actually captures the genuine horror of Spielberg's original, focusing as it does on the unforgiving brutality and tragic isolation of Sean's death.
