20 TERRIFYING Scenes In TERRIBLE Horror Movies
18. Christmas Morning - Sinister 2
Sinister 2 is one of the most disappointing horror sequels of the past decade-or-so - a lackluster follow-up that simply feels like warmed-over, scares-devoid retreat of what came before.
But there's a solid 90 seconds of the sequel which successfully capture the chilling vibe of the original, when we witness another of the eerie Super 8 snuff films committed at the behest of the villain Bughuul (Nicholas King).
This one, entitled Christmas Morning, shows a family opening presents on Christmas morning before we cut to them tied up in shallow graves as a figure shovels snow on top of them.
The family swiftly freezes to death, but not before one of the kids points their piercing gaze directly at the camera.
There's actually a pretty good reason why this sublimely creepy scene is the sequel's standout - it was actually a deleted scene from the original Sinister which was cut and repurposed here instead.
For these 90 seconds, we're watching original director Scott Derrickson at work again, and his small contribution easily outclasses everything else in the film.
