20 TERRIFYING Scenes In TERRIBLE Horror Movies
15. Chauncey Jump Scare - Imaginary
Even accepting the wildly tawdry quality of so many Blumhouse movies, Imaginary was all kinds of rubbish, lending a snoozily generic PG-13 treatment to the admittedly-not-bad premise of a child's "imaginary" friend being a very real, murderous monster.
While Imaginary was very rightly dinged for its many predictable jump scares, there is a single one that actually works incredibly well.
Half-way through the film, the family's neighbour Liam (Matthew Sato) is in their house when he's taunted by the demon Chauncey, who at first takes the guise of a cute stuffed teddy bear.
When Liam walks through the upstairs hallway, Chauncey rolls towards him underneath a blanket, and as he approaches, Chauncey suddenly transforms into a massive, nightmarishly bear-like version of his stuffed self, giving Liam the fright of his life.
It's the only remotely memorable or well-executed moment in the entire movie, and typifies the sort of vibe it should've been shooting for all along.
