20 TERRIFYING Scenes In TERRIBLE Horror Movies

13. Waking Up Dead - The Mummy (2017)

2017's The Mummy marked an utterly dreadful attempt to reboot the iconic Universal Monsters property while kickstarting a wider Dark Universe of interconnected monster films.

Entirely lacking the fun and sheer entertainment factor of the Brendan Fraser-starring Mummy films, this reboot was the one thing you'd never expect a Tom Cruise-starring action flick to be - thunderously dull.

But there is one brief scene that dutifully gets under the skin, when Nick Morton (Cruise) is apparently killed in a plane crash, only to wake up in the morgue inside a body-bag.

Nick is soon enough confronted by the mutilated ghost of his best pal Chris (Jake Johnson), who informs him that he's been cursed by the mummy of Princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella), who intends to use him as a vessel for the deity Set.

The idea of waking up in a morgue, surrounded by the corpses of your colleagues, is creepier than anything else in the movie, and Chris' ghost - which feels very much inspired by An American Werewolf in London - is the eerie cherry on top.
