20 Things Horror Movies NEED To Stop Doing

15. Sex = Death

There are few horror tropes older or moldier than the age-old notion that sex equals death.

Pretty much ever since the origins of the slasher subgenre in particular, sexual activity has been closely associated with death, given the tendency for sexually active characters - and especially promiscuous, unrobed women - to be "punished" for their actions with a swift demise.

Granted, in many cases it's less a moralistic judgment on the part of the filmmaker than an easy excuse to put a combo of nudity and gore on the screen, but it's still a dull, full-flogged genre tradition in the year 2025.

Now in fairness, sex in general has been on the decline in horror films in recent years - possibly due to Gen Z preferring less sexual content in their media.

But while there have been a few inspired, clever takes on the subject through the likes of It Follows, Heart Eyes, and Bone Lake, more often than not when somebody takes their clothes off in a horror film, they're going to end up dead because of it. And isn't that just a bit boring?
