Arguably the most iconic scene in the entire movie sees Alex strapped to a chair as part of his aversion therapy, with his eyes physically held open so as to stop him looking away from what he's seeing. What follows isn't for the squeamish.

The device used to hold his eyes open is specially designed for people who are lying down but, to get the right shot, it was agreed that McDonnell would need to sit up in the chair. This let to him slicing the cornea of his eye on the lid lock.
